Creating a New Chat Widget

To create a new chat widget, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Widgets section in the Integrations menu.
  2. Click on the New Widget button.
  3. Configure the widget settings in the following tabs:
    • General: Set the name, status, allowed domains, and visitor form behavior (None, Required, or Optional).
    • Appearance: Customize the theme color, header text, logo, and position of the widget.
    • Messages: Set the welcome and offline messages.
    • Assistant: Configure the AI assistant that will handle the chat conversations.
    • Advanced: Add custom CSS to further style your chat widget.
  4. Save the widget.

Visitor Form Behavior

You can control whether visitors are asked to provide their contact information before they start a chat. This is useful for lead generation and following up with users later.

The Visitor Form Behavior setting in the General tab offers three options:

  • None (Direct to Chat):

    • Experience: The visitor can start typing and chatting immediately. No form is displayed.
    • Best For: Reducing friction and encouraging casual inquiries.
    • Note: You won't capture the visitor's name or email unless they provide it during the conversation.
  • Required (Name & Email):

    • Experience: A form appears before the chat starts. The visitor must enter their Name and Email to proceed.
    • Best For: Qualified lead generation and ensuring you can follow up via email.
    • Note: This acts as a gate; visitors who don't want to share their email cannot chat.
  • Optional (Name Required, Email Optional):

    • Experience: A form appears asking for Name and Email. The Name is mandatory, but the Email field can be left blank.
    • Best For: Balancing lead capture with user experience. You always get a name for personalization, but email is optional.

Embedding the Chat Widget

Once you have created a chat widget, you can embed it on your website. To get the embed code, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the list of chat widgets.
  2. Click on the Get Embed Code button for the widget you want to embed.
  3. Copy the embed code and paste it into the HTML of your website.

The chat widget will then appear on your website, and your visitors will be able to chat with your AI assistant.
